For I was Hungry and you fed me. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you invited me into your home.

ABOUT US

Serendipity Horse Rescue became a reality in 2020.  This is when my goal of having a horse rescue went into effect to acquire this with the help of my husband, Kevin.

We had done research on different rescues and their purposes, what horses to rescue, such as from the “race tracks” or the “kill buyers” from their slaughter houses. Then it seemed only natural to rescue whatever horse is brought into our path.

We believe there is a reason every horse that comes to Serendipity is meant to be here.  The meaning of Serendipity is “the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.” Therefore, if this is a forever home for the horse, they will be loved and cared for, for the rest of their time with us.

Kevin & I donate to different animal organizations and we sponsor  a “banker” horse (wild horse of the Outer Banks) named Rita,  This is Rita in the picture with me in March 2023.

One of the other organizations is to a local K9 dog, named Getro. We donated to him his Buddy Bag through the K9 Defender Fund. You’ll see him in the picture with his handler Traci. There are so many of God’s precious animals that need our help and if we can give some of them their Serendipity, then we will have done what we set out to accomplish what God has put in our hearts.

Our Rescues

Archimedes (Archie)

Welcomed home November 2023.
He came from the Ned Bassett Gypsy Vanners of Wales!
When he was a colt he got injured playing with another colt and has a nerve issue in his back. This injury has caused him to have a lack of control to his backend. He can walk, run and do what any other horse does, but is very wobbly. We were contacted by the previous owner as he could no longer take care of Archimedes and wanted a forever home for him. Archimedes has a great disposition and loves being groomed. He is 13 years old.

JENNA

Welcomed home September 2023. Jenna is a Belgian around 25 years old.
She worked in the fields plowing this past Summer, for an Amish family. They decided to send her to auction, which ended up getting her at a kill pen buyer who was ready to ship her out to slaughter. Thankfully, we were quick enough to pay her bail and bring her to her forever home at Serendipity. Jenna is very sway back, needs some weight and has some arthritis in her hips, otherwise she is in great condition. Jenna is not a shy Amish girl at all; she loves people, comes to greet you, and  likes hanging out in the woods. Her spirits  improved within a few days of being on the ranch because she knows she is loved and not going anywhere.

Dory

Welcomed home September 2023.  Dory is our first donkey to have on the ranch and in her early 20’s. She is a “Jesus” donkey, as she bares the cross on her back. Dory needed a new home, as where she had lived for 10 years, her two horse buddies had their own foals in the last two years and started to be mean to Dory. She had to be separated from them and she became very lonely. She is now at her forever home and braying to tell us hello and waking up the ranch. She is enjoying all the attention, as well as being the comic of the ranch.  Her pasture buddy is Dyna, the Percheron. Dory is a blessing to have on the ranch.

ISA

Isa was welcomed home in August 2023.  Isa is an 18 year old Egyptian Arabian and  a retired endurance racer. He has won the “Best Condition” award after a race, which is very prestigious for an endurance racing horse. We were contacted  to make Serendipity Isa’s forever home and are grateful to have this handsome guy join our family.   Isa will be found wherever there is a person; in the barn, the corral or pasture. He enjoys attention and watching the activity that is going on. He is very gentle with letting riders of all ages sit on him bareback and walk around the corral. Isa and Chance were together on a previous ranch.

Dyna

Welcomed home July 2023. Dyna is a 20 year old Percheron that lived on the same Mennonite farm for 15 years. Dyna had gotten EPM disease at the age of 10, which can cause muscle atrophy, weakness and lameness, but survived and worked hard for the next 10 years as a hay baler and a worker in the fields. Dyna lost her first foal in May 2023 and almost died herself. The local veterinary told the owner to walk Dyna to her grave and shoot her, knowing she was going to have a difficult birth and she really couldn’t work anymore because of the EPM effects. For these reasons she was being sent to auction, which for Dyna would have been to slaughter.  We are blessed to have been contacted to rescue her! She is a beautiful girl and has a funny disposition!

Chance

Welcomed home May 2023. Chance is our first re-homed horse. His previous owners have had some life changes and they wanted a place he would be loved, worked with and bond with a human.  He is a sweetheart and wants to please you. He is a bit flighty, but we will work with him to trust us. We are thankful Chance was asked to come live on Serendipity.  Chance is around 12 yrs old.
